Launching WorldHost, an internationally renowned customer service training programme, the Ministers addressed over 190 delegates at the event in the Clandeboye Lodge Hotel in Bangor. The WorldHost Programme will provide training for front-line staff in hospitality, tourism and passenger transport in what is a landmark year of opportunity for tourism in Northern Ireland.

Highlighting the importance of high quality customer service, Tourism Minister Arlene Foster said: “This is an exciting time for Northern Ireland tourism. With the NI2012 programme of events and top class visitor attractions opening, we have an unprecedented opportunity to put Northern Ireland on the map and to generate future tourism business.

Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster joins Iain Gray, CEO of the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) to announce a multi-million pound funding package for the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) programme in Northern Ireland.

Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster today announced a multi-million pound funding package for the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) programme in Northern Ireland.

The UK-wide initiative supports businesses that want to improve their competitiveness, productivity and performance by helping them to access the knowledge and expertise available within local universities and further educational colleges.

Ortus, the business development agency, is looking for 10 social enterprises to develop their businesses into a franchise, and 20 community and voluntary or social enterprises interested in a franchisee arrangement to start up new social economy businesses as part of The Social Franchising Programme.

The programme forms part of Invest Northern Ireland’s Jobs Fund and aims to create 285 new jobs across Northern Ireland.  It has been designed to help community, voluntary and social economy sector organisations defy the current economic downturn.

Applications are open now with information seminars planned all over Northern Ireland including one at The Play House next Thursday 23rd February 2012.

Derry companies had tremendous success with the Creative Industries Innovation Fund over the Summer with well over a dozen projects being funded with up to £10k (each) in grant funding. The great news is that CIIF is back and open for applications again between now and Thursday, Feb 23rd.

Once again applications are welcomed from businesses and individuals for innovative new projects and you can apply for up to £10k. There are a few differences though. Firstly, any creative industries project is eligible. Secondly, existing staff salaries are eligible. Decisions will be made by May and projects must be completed by the end of March 2013.
